An Integrated Partnership, a Unified Accomplishment: Completing Kicking Horse Canyon Phase 4

Just over a decade after breaking ground, the Kicking Horse Canyon project achieved substantial completion with the successful conclusion of Phase 4. This milestone marked the end of the most challenging phase in one of the largest, most significant road upgrade projects in BC’s recent history.

The fourth phase of the $600M project has transformed the winding two-lane highway into a modern, four-lane corridor. Completing this highly technical stage required innovative solutions and a highly-experienced team. Emil Anderson Construction collaborated with Aecon Group Inc. and Parsons Inc. to form the Kicking Horse Canyon Constructors (KHCC), pooling their collective expertise and resources to complete the project within the tight timeframe while overcoming numerous challenges, including geotechnical variability, active traffic, and a relatively remote location.

“The project setup being an integrated general partnership helped give us access to a lot of company knowledge from the different groups,” says Jason Adam of Emil Anderson Construction, Civil Manager for KHCC. “From the day we were all put together as KHCC, the company boundaries were dropped. Coming from different backgrounds and being able to spitball ideas and share resources was a huge strength of the project.”
