Jaffray Overhead & Big Sand Creek Bridge
Project Overview
In 2023, Emil Anderson Construction began the replacement of two deteriorating bridges on Highway 3, a critical east-west route between the Alberta border and Hope. With the original infrastructure largely untouched since it was built in the 1950s, the new bridges will be constructed to a modern standard and designed to accommodate today’s higher traffic volumes. Construction is expected to finish in 2025.
- Located in the East Kootenays, the applicable section of highway serves 6,000 vehicles per day.
- Improvements will enhance safety for the community and passing traffic by eliminating a dangerous hairpin turn.
Streamlining a Vital Route
“Highway 3 is a critically important route all the way from the Alberta border to Hope. These new, modern structures will support local residents, tourists, and commercial users – keeping people and goods on the move.”
- Rob Fleming, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure
A Woman-Led Team
The Jaffray Overhead and Big Sand Creek Bridge are a heavy lift, and we are proud to have a woman supervisor leading the project. The improvements will make important, potentially life-saving enhancements to an active stretch of road used by commercial transportation and the local community.
